A significant milestone for Sancho

Image
Jadon Sancho Jadon Sancho reached a significant milestone with his goal for Borussia Dortmund against RB Leipzig at the weekend. It meant he overtook Tony Woodcock as the most prolific Englishman to play in the Bundesliga. Given Harry Kane has already scored 35 league goals for Bayern Munich this season, Sancho’s new record mark of 40 is not going to last long. However, the fact he has achieved it says a lot about his productivity levels for Dortmund. Sancho’s three goals in 16 appearances in his second spell at the club, on loan, is an improvement on the 12 in 82 he managed at Manchester United.

Howard Webb   Referees' chief Howard Webb says Michael Oliver "will be really disappointed" to have not initially awarded a penalty for Declan Rice's foul on Ben Davies in Sunday's Premier League derby between Tottenham and Arsenal. In his attempt to clear the ball in the box, Arsenal midfielder Rice caught Tottenham defender Davies without touching the ball. Referee Oliver initially waved away appeals for a penalty before the video assistant referee (VAR) intervened and recommended he reviewed the decision, which was then overturned.

The Feyenoord manager is widely expected to be appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement at Anfield after agreeing terms over a move. Slot has publicly stated his desire to move to Liverpool and deals are also thought to have been struck to bring first-team coach Sipke Hulshoff as well as head of performance Ruben Peeters with him.

FAM to avoid Bingu Stadium fines

BINGU STADIUM   Fooltball Association of Malawi (FAM) has resolved to buy Bingu National Stadium technical area luxury seats to replace the current substandard ones to avoid Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) sanctions. Bingu National Stadium, the only facility in the country certified to host FIFA/CAF matches, was in January 2023 given provisional approval to host international matches by CAF on condition that some shortfalls, including the substandard technical area seats should be replaced with the approved luxury shelter ones. But the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which owns the facility, has failed to replace the condemned seats, prompting CAF to fine Malawi $5 250 fines for each Flames match the stadium hosts since January 2023. FAM has already paid $21 000 (about K36 million) for hosting matches against Egypt, Guinea and Ethiopia in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and against Tunisia in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

"It's been a good season so far"

Harry kane Harry Kane just can't stop scoring - now all he needs is a first career major trophy. The England captain was on the scoresheet yet again - his 43rd goal in 43 games this season - as Bayern drew 2-2 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie. Things could not have gone much better for him personally in his debut season for Bayern but it would be a disappointment not to cap off such a prolific campaign in front of goal with a long-awaited piece of silverware. Bayer Leverkusen have already halted Bayern's run of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles this season but could Kane end his trophy drought by winning the Champions League instead? "It's been a good season so far," said Kane, who joined Bayern from Tottenham for an initial £86.4m last summer.
